Description
Ransomware is a type of malicious software
cyber actors use to deny access to systems or data. The malicious cyber actor
holds systems or data hostage until the ransom is paid.
Ransomware remains one
of the most profitable tactics for cybercriminals with ransom demands often
ranging from $1 million to $10 million. The first documented and purported
example of ransomware was the 1989 AIDS Trojan, also known as PS Cyborg.
